Description

Haiku and poetry from a lifelong writing junkie and working-class poet on the fringes of Philly. This volume began as a handwritten booklet of poetry given as a gift for a friend. It's now been polished up a bit and made available here as a collection of 80 poems (68 haiku, 12 in other formats) culled from years of scrawl in notebooks, journals and on websites.

Summary: "An overlooked Diamond on the bookshelf"

This is such a petite book, it can really get lost on your bookshelf. But don't judge a book by it's size, it might be small, but it packs some great poetry in it's slim volume.

Hall has a wonderful eye for the smallest details, the most lovely things, and the romantic, and writes them off as haiku. His images are haunting and lovely, and stay with you for hours after you finish the book. It's almost as if he was Keats or Shelly writing haiku in a past live.


It's really a must read for all poetry lovers out there. My only complaint is it ended too soon, but then, he has a website, which as new poems, and maybe he will write another book from that.

Summary: "I'm biased, but this is terrific"

Howard Hall's "Cool Menthol Woman" happens to capture a lot of wisdom and observations of truth - from sweet to saccharine, from straight up to romantic - in a very small, very digestible book (you will want to read it in a single night from front to back).

I find it rare that a book actually leaves me feeling spiritually fed after reading it (the last book that did that was "The Last Lecture"), but "Cook Menthol Woman" happened to do that.

And yes, I'm biased - Howard is an associate of mine and a friend, but people know I'm a bit hyper-critical and unfailingly honest - so I post this review to urge you to buy this nugget and pass it along to friends and family.
